Yvonne Austin Obituary

“I AM CONFIDENT, I SAY, AND WILLING RATHER TO BE ABSENT FROM THIS BODY, AND TO BE PRESENT WITH THE LORD.”  II CORINTHIANS 5:8

It is with a shout of joy and a grateful heart that I say “see you in the morning” to all those I leave behind! For I knew that if this old earthly body gave out, that I had a building from God, eternal in the Heavens, not made by man’s hands. I have overcome the world because my faith did not stand in the wisdom of man but in the power of God.

YVONNE J. AUSTIN was born on September 25, 1948, to Luther and Allie B. Johnson in Savannah, GA. Yvonne received her formal education at Risley High School in Brunswick, GA. She furthered her education at Passaic County Community College in Paterson, NJ, and later became a registered nurse. Yvonne accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and was united with Zion Rock Missionary Baptist Church.

Yvonne Johnson was united in holy matrimony with Jimmie L. Austin, Jr., on May 13, 1984, in Paterson, NJ.  Their union was blessed with one son, Michael Johnson.

To everyone who knew her, they knew that she enjoyed cooking, traveling, and shopping. She was employed by Passaic County Home Health as a registered nurse for twenty years and a member of the Risley Alumni Association.

Yvonne J. Austin earned her wings on July 1, 2025. To God be the glory for a life exemplified by her unwavering faith, her love for her family and friends, and to all the lives she was blessed to impact. She was preceded in death by her father, Luther Johnson; mother, Allie B. Johnson; and brother, Fred Beckley.

She leaves to cherish her memories and carry on her legacy: her husband, Jimmie L. Austin, Jr.; son, Michael (Taiwana) Johnson; stepdaughters, Sharon (Robert) Harrell, Pam (Greg) Norvell, and Andrea (Romie) West; eight grandchildren, including two very special grandchildren, Dijhia Sheely and Michael Johnson, Jr.; two bonus granddaughters, Na’Tori and Malyah Hall; seven great-grandchildren; two loving sisters, Ruby (Eugene) Anderson and Nicole (Shawn) Minor; two brothers, Luther Johnson and Quintin (Rose) Johnson; loving sister-in-law, Shirley Beckley; one very special niece, Dr. Valencia Beckley Hildreth; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and her Zion Rock Church family.
