"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28
Although I would have liked to stay a little longer, “He Knows What’s Best For Me, So I Won’t Complain.” I have been blessed to raise my children. They are grown, self-sufficient, and thriving. My children know that I love them, and I know they love me. They have always stood by me, and my family has been a constant source of support. “God has been good to me.” When you are tossed by the storms and winds of life, it is okay to ask the Lord to take your hand. As you celebrate my homegoing, I pray that each of you will remember that I fought so hard to remain with each of you. I have finished my earthly course of life. My sudden departure was all a part of God’s plan for me, so keep the faith. In my absence, remember that my spirit lives on.
YVONNE C. FUSSELL was born on September 28, 1939, to Sam Joseph and Mary L. Calhoun in Metter, Georgia. In 1958, she graduated from the historical Risley High School in Brunswick, Georgia, and furthered her education at Albany State University in Albany, Georgia, and later became a Special Education Teacher. She furthered her education at Georgia Southern University receiving her master’s degree. Yvonne Fussell accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and was united with St. Andrews CME Church where she served as the Mother of the church, Missionary Society and Board of Stewards.
Yvonne Calhoun was united in holy matrimony with Joe H. Fussell on May 9, 1964 in Valdosta, GA, Lowndes County. Their union was blessed with four children; Carla L. Fussell Mangram, Anita Fussell-Bradley, Joe H. Fussell, Jr., and Pamela Y. Fussell-Jones.
In her leisure, she enjoyed going to the Roosevelt Harris Center, enjoying Bible study and socializing with her friends. She also enjoyed being present in church for Bible study and Sunday worship. She was employed by the Glynn County school systems, Glynn Academy and Brunswick High School, as a Special Education teacher for thirteen years.
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort who heard the silent cries of Yvonne Fussell, so He sent His angels to reclaim his child on March 1, 2025. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary L. Calhoun; father, Sam J. Calhoun; daughter, Carla Fussell-Mangram; two sisters, Gladys Lee and Dorothy Nunnally; and brother, Jerry Calhoun, Sr.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her children, Anita R. Fussell-Bradley, Joe H. (Verika) Fussell, Jr., and Pamela Y. (Elijah) Fussell-Jones; twelve grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
