Wherever we go, from our birth throughout our life and into the passage of death, the Lord is always and ever with us. When the time comes to bid this life farewell, we should find comfort in knowing that a loving God will be there with us to guide us to our new home. Zona E. Jones fully entered the presence of the Lord on September 9, 2023. She was a beloved wife, mother, big ma, sister, aunt, First Lady, and devoted woman of God.
Born on January 8, 1939, to Theodus Lewis and Ethel Elbert in Wrightsville, Georgia. Zona was the second oldest of her six siblings: Rosamae (the late Blanche) Gibson, Edna (the late Willie) Canada, Mary Bradley (the late William L), James Lee Boyd (Juanita), Betty Jean Telfair (Ted). She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, the late Bishop George L. Jones and her daughter, Geneva Evans Davis.
As First Lady of Gordon Street Church of God in Christ (Brunswick, GA), she taught the women’s ministry and God’s calling over her life to encourage, empower and bless anyone who she encountered. Together, she and Bishop impacted their respective communities by dedicating their lives to being an example of God’s love and word.
Zona was blessed with a large and loving family. She leaves her lifelong lessons and unwavering strength to her children: Joann (Joe) Anderson, Carolyn (Rennie) Moore, Donald Evans, and Charles (Harriet) Evans; grandchildren, Antoneah, Melena, Brittani, Demetrius, Rennie, Jr. (Dianne), Cierra (Abioye), Ezekiel, Starr, Geneva, Donald, Jr., and Charles; great grandchildren, Deszerae, Samaiya, Zhaeda, Ghabriel, Alixzander, Joaune, Akira, Amari, Malaya, Levi, Jennifer, Cilyn, Elijah, Zuri, Zariea, and Zaleah; great, great, grandchildren, Jorlyn, Slay and a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, close relatives and friends.
